There is a direct train from Leeds to Scarborough, and for almost everyone it is the right one. TransPennine Express runs it, with four stops along the way, and it takes about 1h 18m; a few runs were a couple of minutes quicker.
On the weekday timetable we checked, 17 direct trains left Leeds between 05:52 and 21:51. After the first two they kept close to a single slot, between 41 and 45 minutes past each hour, from the 07:43 to the 20:42. The latest direct departure found was later in its hour, at 21:51.
An hourly train is generous for a day out but unforgiving of small delays getting to Leeds station, since the next one is an hour behind. If you are coming in by bus or car to catch it, give yourself that margin rather than aiming for the minute.
Two journeys with a change at York appeared in the evening, at 19:13 and 22:13, each taking about 1h 45m. The 22:13 is the useful one: it leaves after the 21:51 direct train and still reaches Scarborough just before midnight.
An hourly option changing at Brough also turned up through the day, but at around 2h 45m it is more than twice as long as the direct train and has nothing to recommend it unless the direct service is not running.
The car is no match for the train here either. The A64 route is 72 miles and takes about 1h 40m, some twenty minutes longer than the rail journey.
Arriving at Scarborough station, you are about 820 metres from Newborough, around eleven minutes on foot into the centre of town.
Journey times and changes below come from the rail and bus timetables for Tuesday 1 December 2026. Weekend and holiday timetables differ, so check the day you travel.
